Cattail (Typha)

In July 2020 I found this wetland plant at a plunge pool along a channelized arroyo. A photo from about a year later shows the distinctive fan-shaped bases of the leaves. In the winter the cattails turn brown and the hot-dog-shaped seed heads begin to disintegrate. There are three species of cattail in New Mexico, but I don't feel the need to distinguish them.
